I ran out into River Heights and Providence this morning. I am a little sore from the 1/2 on Saturday, but not too bad. My pace was easy since it was a recovery run, but I'm not sure how easy? I left my watch on the dashboard of my truck all weekend and the sun killed it. I was pretty bummed about it, since it was such a cool watch. Now I guess I really will have get my Garmin 205, but who knows how long that will take to get here, so I might be watchless for a while.

Run Naked!!!

I would Go with the Garmin 305 with the heart rate monitor, you will get more use out of the heart rate monitor, it has helped me ... I had the 205 and like the 305 alot more, just food for thought.

James - if you have to buy this with your own cash while the family budget is tight, I would recommend a $10 Walmart watch. I've trained just fine with that all my life, the only reason I have Garmin 305 is that I accumulated enough credit at the Wasatch Running Center which would have gone to waste at the end of the year. It is a nice training tool, but I would not spend more than $30 for it for what it gives me. If it could guarantee 1 foot precision in distance and elevation measurement, and absolutely never lose signal, I might consider spending $100, maybe even $200.

I might agree with Sasha if it weren't for the fact that not all of us can run on the provo river trail where everything is wheeled out as far as distance is concerned, and even though the distance feature is a little off at times it is still close enough to help mark distances, all my races I don't think I have ever lost a signal.

But if you do run on the river trail or you have a way to mark your distances I would agree with Sasha, get a $10 watch from walmart and save your money...

I am not really into the Heart rate monitor so I went with the 205. Paul and Logan seem to like it. I did go to to the store today and got me a 50 lap Iron Man watch for $25, so that should do me fine for races and such. My last watch just kept tons of data on it, so I din't have to log my time every time I ran, before I ran again. I liked being lazy. The reason I decided to break down and get a Garmin was because I am moving from Logan and it has taken me almost 3 years to find all of my routes and figure out the distances, and I won't have that anymore.

The Garmin is a great tool to just let you go run anywhere and know basically whats going on. It may not be %100, but for training runs it's close enough. After having one I could never run without one. Other than on days where I run routs that I already know the distance and I'm just taking it easy. I have the 305 and wish I'd got the 205. I never use the heart rate... and it would have been $100 cheaper x3 because I've bought 3 of them.

No!!! Say it ain't so, James! Tell me that you didn't give in to the dark side of the force! Now I am the only one left... and proud of it!

Yep - Just like you were the "last" to join the blog, right Jon?

I think everyone has their preferences about watches and what they expect from them. Some things are worth the money to some people, but are a complete waste to others...like underwear, some use it, some don't.

From Jon on Tue, Aug 14, 2007 at 17:05:29

I'm just stubborn.

What is this "underwear" of which you speak? I don't think I am familiar with that word...

From Jon on Tue, Aug 14, 2007 at 17:07:13

I wonder if James will be upset that we are now polluting his blog with discussions of underwear...

From James on Wed, Aug 15, 2007 at 15:33:44

My blog is full of pollution anyways!

How much was your 205?

From James on Wed, Aug 15, 2007 at 18:29:50

I always said that when those things were under $150 and about the size of a normal wrist watch that I would get one. They are close enough now, and I have been saving my pennies and had the money to get one. I paid $162 with shipping. The 305 was only another $50, but I didn't want the heart rate monitor.
