Cold morning run. I ran out to the shotgun pits and back.  There was a lot of snow and ice.  I was in slow motion today and had a hard time ever getting into rhythm or feeling good.  The only real highlight of my run today was chasing about 5 deer down the road for a half mile. 58:20 (7:47 ave.)

I absolutely hate January and February, they are cold, dark, and uneventful months for me.  I try to find stuff to do and look forward to so they will pass by faster.  I am usually playing a lot of basketball and am either involved in intramurals, city league, or church ball.  This year because of where I live and my tendonitis that is a no go.  I hope that running Painter's and doing some other activities will be as good or better for me.  The good part about this January and February is I haven't let myself get completely out of shape like I usually do, so it isn't as hard to get out the door and run as in the past.

I hear ya James about January and February.

For me I can't wait till these months are over. It's always a celebration to began the new year, but you can't do a lot because of the cold weather and life seems to just change these first couple of months. Great run in the ugly weather.

Good luck on the job hunt. I know a couple of months ago there were teacher positions in Pocatello, but I don't know about allowing a position as track coach. I can ask my friend who's a teacher if there's any hiring going on, if Pocatello is of any interests for you to live.

I concur with both of you...cold weather months are just the time to trudge through thinking of the hopeful March thaw. I have actually run more outside this year in the cold than ever before and it is a toss-up now which is worse, cold/dark weather runs or the TM.

I also feel the same way about Jan. and Feb. as soon as the holidays are over I can't wait for spring. I LOVE SPRING!

Funny, we were talking about this very thing on our run today. Jan and Feb suck! Not only is it cold and dark, but it is my busiest time at work too. I didn't know you were coming down for Painters...it should be a party!

From James on Thu, Jan 03, 2008 at 22:16:01

Mik'L- I am coming down, but don't plan on racing hard. I am not race ready, especially for half marathon distance. But I have always wanted to run Painter's 1/2, and it is a holiday weekend so we can stick around longer.

From MichelleL on Fri, Jan 04, 2008 at 11:02:46

It should be fun to do Painters even without being in full race shape. I have tried to be race ready, and it is just hard with all the ice and snow and freezing temperatures.

We may be up at Paul's parents tomorrow morning. If that ends up happening, would you like to do a Sat. morning run?

From Jon on Fri, Jan 04, 2008 at 16:18:06

I totally agree about the weather. I can only run after 5-6 pm, so it is always dark and cold. Motivation is hard.

James, you are one the winter warriors. Every time it is a bad day along the trail of snow and ice, I remind myself of some cold runs for you and Kory. You two are really the chiefs of winter warriors. Great job, wish we were doing Painters.
