I went out about 2 p.m. today.  It was pretty warm but only about 80 degrees, not like Clyde's 100 degree weather down in St. George.  Still, that was warm enough for me to put on the hat and shorty shorts for my run.  I went up to 2nd Dam and back via canal trail.  It was nice to be on the trail all by myself for a change, and the tree made for some ggod shade in spots.  I felt great on my recovery run today going up the canyon and was averaging around 7:10 per mile.  On the way back I slowed down alot because of my sore quads, and averaged just under 8 minute miles for a while until I loosed up somemore.  It is funny because I usually run that run the opposite; 8:00s up and 7:00s down.  I can run fine on the uphill, but give me a little downhill and I can really feel it.  Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow, but I for sure won't be running any downhill tempo!  Walked down the street on my cool down and stood in the canal by the credit union for about 10 minutes to ice my legs, it felt good.  Not a bad run considering I could hardly run down the hill by my house yesterday.  1:16:17

An interesting sidenote for me: I hit 1000 miles for the year the day before WBR, and last year I only ran 975 miles the whole year.  The mileage alone gives me confidence that I can reach my goals, and I have had some good quality training as well.

Congrats. It's obvious that the mileage is already paying big dividends. You are just seeing the beginning.

Out of curiosity, I checked my own yearly mileage so far, and compared it to previous years. So far this year (6 months) I have done equal to or more mileage than the whole years of 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006! It really pays off!

I imagine many other bloggers are seeing similar trends...

I think you hit a very important point on your blog today. I agree with you completely. Its very interesting that last year I hit 1007 miles. However, 853 of those miles were from July 1 to Dec 31. That explains the rapid improvement in the later months of the year. So far this year I have run 1335.

The mileage does pay off in your results. I just don't see how some of you guys have the time for the really high mileage (70+) as I struggle to fit in 50+ miles per week. 1000+ miles in 2007 is good stuff. I will hit just over 1200 miles by the end of June (about the same as last year) but I think the quality of my runs are a little better. Plus, last year's base has just made this year that much more effective. Keep up the hard work.

I am with you on the mileage. I try to hit 50+ every week, maybe at the end of August and through September I can hit some 70s. I think what has been so good for me is that I have been so consistant this year in my running. I started from nothing in the end of January and worked up 5 miles per week until I hit 50 in March sometime. I have stuck around 50 ever since. I have had some very good quality runs and have some very quality guys to run with once in a while, and that has helped as well. I am sure that some of the guys on the blog are well over 2,000 miles for the year, and my hat is off to them, because I don't think that I could handle that, time wise or physically.
