I had a hard time talking myself into my run today, because I still feel kind of crappy and weak, and I would be all alone. I started in Brigham City and ran up Sardine Canyon on the highway. The shoulder was big enough that I didn't have too much trouble with traffic. I'll tell you, that is one heck of a climb for that 8 miles to the summit when you are running into a headwind! About a half mile before I hit the summit (Box Elder and Cache County lines) the wind switched, not what I was looking forward to.  I was pretty hammered when I turned around, but sucked a GU down and knew that most of the next 8 miles was pretty good downhill. I averaged about 8:45 per mile going up.  On the way down I wanted to hit some marathon pace miles and I did.  I had 6 miles between 5:40 and 5:50 and a couple others around 6:00 minute pace. By the time I got down to Brigham I was at 16 miles and had about had it, but I struggled home anyways for the last 4 miles. Once again I was going uphill into the wind, but managed a 7:15 average home. I averaged 7:29 pace for the whole run, that is what happens when you run 9:00s up and 6:00s down. I was so glad to be done! That was by far my toughest run of the year, for how I felt. 2:29:45 for the run, and a headwind for about 19+ miles.

After I finally recovered enough to eat and shower, I got a sweet 2 hour + nap that really helped me out. I probably over did it today, but I felt I needed that run, for my confidence if nothing else.

(Omni- 180 miles)

Good to hear you're dropping the sickness. Speaking of sick, you ran up Hwy. 89? Wow, man.

I agree with Dave- choosing to run up Hwy 89? Your sickness must have done something to your head. Next time call me and I will run with you somewhere with no traffic.

Were you throwing up when you were sick? I think your kid might have shared it with my kid, who was throwing up all night Friday. Then I caught it and was throwing up all night last night. Feel terrible.

James -

Yelm is maybe an hour from here, but it's out there so it's basically an hour from everywhere. I used to camp there a lot.

James, wow you train hard, but I see your results are excellent so you obviously know what you are doing.

I have driven Sardine Canyon many times, as my mother is from Hyde Park in Cache County, just north of Logan. That would be a great training run.

Thanks for the nice note in my blog. You would do great on an Ironman. Good luck if you choose to do one.

Paul
