Cold tough run on the canal road.  I ran into an 85 year old man walking his three dogs on my way home.  The dogs were nice dogs, unlike most around here.  He showed and told me about a couple of places where I could find petroglyphs.  I will have to check them out when there is a little less snow.  Lots of snow so it was slow going, eventhough I ran in snowmobil tracks most of the run.  7:39 average for the run.

(Kahana- 15 miles

In evaluating this year, I have to say it was a good year for me.  I hit over 2,300 miles, had some good races, and some fun times with many of you.   St. George was my greatest accomplishment, coming off of 4 weeks of pneumonia and still being able to run 2:33!  It was a long time goal for me to break 2:35, and was a sweet accomplishment for me.   Also winning the Ute Stampede 5k by over two minutes, in what is sometimes a hostile environment for me, was another sweet experience.     It has been a crazy year for me with a lot going on in my life.  I was blessed to have as much time as I did to train, and to stay as healthy as I did.  Last year I didn't even run 1,000 miles. Consistency was the key to my success this year and I hope to keep it up in 2008.  It should be a fun year with the racing team and the growing blog.  Happy to New Year to everyone!

No animal attack, and friendly talk with a pet owner? Who are you and what have you done with James?

From James on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 17:21:56

Lybi- I actually did get attacked by a doberman being walked by his owner about a half mile into my run. The guy didn't have the dog on a leash. I was ticked, especially because it happened on my father in-law's property, so I was pretty threatening to that guy. I was trying to leave out the negative, especially since most of my run wasn't bad. I told Laura to smoke you tonight in your race, so it will be on! Have a fun New Years Eve!

From Lybi on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 17:30:28

Okay, well that restores my faith in you. I can't believe someone wouldn't have a dangerous dog like that on a leash. Dobermans are scary!

I was chased by 3 dogs in the same day last week in New Mexico--a first for me. I thought of you and grabbed a big ol' rock & carried it the rest of the run. I doubt it would've helped, though, because I could miss the side of a barn when it comes to throwing.

Happy New Year to you too!

From James on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 17:36:55

Lybi- This is small town Utah, everyone has big mean dogs that aren't on leashes. I would imagine small town New Mexico is worse. I am a pretty good shot with a rock. Jon Allen gives me a hard time, but I have saved his bacon a time or two by hitting an attacking dog between the eyes with a rock when we have been running. Was being chased by three dogs what brought on the niggle?

I'm glad to hear that somebody I know had a good year. I hope it also continues for you and some of it rubs off on me.

From Lybi on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 18:39:38

Uh oh Josse! You feeling down? You are an inspiration! Remember that.

James--no, the dogs brought on the heart palpitations (not really). My niggle is from my longest run ever on Saturday at 12.62 miles, (or 12.5 in James-speak).

Winter time is always a downer for me but this year has had way to many challanges for me(and i am use to challanges). I am just looking forward to starting the new year and making it a good one.

From Brent on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 18:58:26

James, you have helped to make the blog fun. I hope your coming 2008 year is the bestest ever for running, family and teaching. By the way, pepper spray is not that expensive. I don't know if it is best to always rely on your accuracy with the fast ball.

Stay Cool, not freezing, Brent and Sylvie out, see you at the races.

From Logan on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 19:35:03

2008 should be a good one for you. Keep it up!

From Benn on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 21:49:03

Thanks, James! And I agree you have had quite the year! What are your aspirations for next year? I bet 2008 is going to be a sweet year! Drop the Hammer and Good luck in all your races!

See you in Moab! (I'll try to get in shape by then. If not, I'll be the guy eating too many brugers.)

From Jon on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 12:50:58

Happy New Year! I'll have to be sure to get more miles than you this year- my Oct and Nov are the reasons you beat me this year.

Any luck with the job hunt?

From James on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 16:30:00

Jon- None yet, but everything has been shut down for the Holidays.
